Reviving the classics
198X is an arcade game that will truly make you feel like you time-traveled back in the late 80s. The 2D graphics say it all! Even with its classic arcade vibe, the game is very entertaining as it is jam-packed with different kinds of gameplay. It also follows an interesting storyline where players can join the game protagonist in discovering new worlds through arcade games. Yes, that means that you will get to play different arcade games as well!
A nostalgic game
It would be impossible not to feel young at heart, especially older players who grew up playing arcade games. 198X is a promising indie game that offers two hours of non-stop entertainment and enjoyment. The short playtime is a bit of a downer, but after completing the whole thing, you can say those two hours are well spent. 198X’s storyline is also a little compelling as it explores how the line between games and reality can become a blur. Still, it is lighthearted, casual, and carefree. The plot provides just the right depth to the game in order to give it direction. Unlike other arcade games that simply pass by level after level, 198X at least tries to give its players a clear objective that would motivate them to finish the whole thing. It makes it less convincing to tap out in the middle of the gameplay because it is not entirely aimless.
As for the games you can expect in 198X, there are shooter games, beat-em-up games, and even an RPG dungeon crawler. Each round also does not last that long, once again giving players just enough time to properly enjoy each game without it becoming too boring, and dragging. The gameplay is not repetitive and it balances everything.
